Back to the Island

Hilton Head Island called me up and said......Becky I miss you and your funniness, please come back and see me. I said, well OK, be right there! Dhana just happened to have the weekend free as well so she hopped in the truck with me Friday after work. One of Dhana's good friends lives in Bluffton so we stopped by and had a beverage on the way into the island with Beth. Made it to the Holiday Inn for a late check-in. I had met a person of interest the last time I had visited the island and he happened to have a friend that wanted to meet us for dinner that evening so it really worked out well for the 4 of us! We went to dinner at a local restaurant, then to the triangle so that Dhana could, "boogie", which in the normal language means to dance.

Saturday morning, well we missed that, but Saturday afternoon we awoke to a cloudy day. We jumped lively out of bed and headed to the marina/lighthouse. Well we slowly exited the bed and headed to the restaurant, the Crazy Crab for a great lunch of a fried Grouper sandwich and our drink buffet! Dhana and I have started the best tradition of a drink buffet, consisting of a water, a diet pepsi and a bloody mary! :) After the lunch we toured around to Deer Island to show Dhana the cool sealofts that are the round lofts elevated up off the ground with spiral staircases. Really neat looking! Then we went to the Piggly Wiggly for some supplies. We purchased a kite, the endangered snowy owl! I had forgotten how complicated it was to construct one of these such kites, but as you can imagine, Dhana was of no assistance! Not sure if I had said this in an earlier blog but Dhana is a single female home owner, such as myself, but she doesn't even own a screw driver!! So last week when it appeared that someone had tried to pry open her front door by removing the doorknob, I simply said, Dhana hand me a screwdriver. Dhana replied, I don't have one of those! I then proceeded to laugh until I peed and then called my step-dad to laugh with him about the irony of miss independent (me) being in Dhana's home where her tools consist of a hammer and an umbrella!

So the kite flying went really well! There are many kite rules by the way, they are printed at the bottom of the instruction sheet for your reading pleasure! One of which clearly states that you are not to fly the kite near any spectators...well how the heck are we to clear the beach to fly the dang kite?! Dhana was not the best kite flier in the world but she certain won the "good trier" award! I did really well at the flying aspect but continually was attacked by the owl as I was trying to toss it up into the air for Dhana to try to fly it. I have really forgotten how fun it is to fly a kite, and being on the ocean is a lot of fun as well :) This evening we went out to eat with her friend Beth to a place called Frankie Bones. Had just finished a great meal when the manager of the restaurant approached us and said that he just wanted to warn us that 125people were about to come into the place. We said, oh wow, why would there be that many people here? He informed us that there was a bar crawl going on on the island this evening. So in piled probably 50-60people and came and went between this restaurant and the one next door. Well at one point I came back from the bathroom and a gentleman slapped a yellow wristband on me, I said thanks and sat down at the table. Dhana standing there in her coat says, "come on, let's boogie". I asked where we were headed so quickly........She said we are getting on the trolley, let's go!

Outside sat 3 trolleys that proved to be some of the craziest folks that ever lived! We were singing 80s songs and ringing the trolley bell as we went from place to place landing at the "triangle" where we had been the night previous! What a funny night, meeting some interesting folks for sure! At one point Dhana looks at me and says, "how do we end up in the weirdest, yet most fun places together?" I looked at her and said, "welcome to my life lately, I don't know how I get so lucky!" The next morning we did make it up before noon, mainly because we had to check out of the hotel by 11am. On the beach this morning was a horse race!! I overheard a lady saying that these horse races had not been on the island for 20years, well lucky us. We watched the horse parade and then went for some lunch. We returned to the hotel to meet up with our friends and watch the race, however our timing was a bit off, we missed the actual race. oops! The hotel was filled with people though enjoying the 60degree sunny day with their friends and family, so we joined them. We stayed until we had to drive home around 3pm, getting home around 7pm after some stops and going to bed by 8pm!! What a beautiful island with some crazy people. I'm sure as it gets warmer on my travels, the people will begin to emerge from hibernation and rejoin the rest of us crazies!!
